Taipei is the most densely populated city in Taiwan, which has the second highest population density in the world. It is home to 2.6 million people, 7 million people if you include the metropolitan area. Taipei is an expensive city to live in. Leading a western life style is rather more expensive than Europe. Taipei is however cleaner, safer, convenient, and better run than most cities in Taiwan. The positives for living in Taipei are that you can buy almost anything you want there and have a large selection of different kinds of food.

Taipei is the center of Taiwanese government and society hosting many Chinese and international cultural events. Taipei is also one of the world's top three cities for broadband deployment, with PCs in 88% of homes and 77% of households connected to ADSL service. Where hardware and infrastructure is concerned, Taipei is justly proud of being a global leader. Taipei is Taiwan's leading commercial, industrial, and cultural center. It is also the northern hub of the railway system.

Taipei is a city of many faces, where ancient and modern co-exist. Taipei is Taiwan's chief transportation center. The main domestic airport, Sungshan, is located northeast of Taipei's old central business district. Taipei is a safe destination for travelers with no crime problems. However, it is advisable to keep an eye on your belongings and be aware of pickpockets in crowded places.

Taipei is famous for its wide variety of Chinese cuisine and large selection of tropical fruits and vegetables. Taipei also offers contrasting landscapes of seas, mountains, and urban city life that make it a truly unique and special Asian destination. Taipei is the capital city on the island of Taiwan, a thriving island with a rich cultural tradition, as well as one of the region’s most dynamic economies. Taipei is a fascinating blend of old and new, a centre of government, business, finance, fashion and culture, where the only constant is change. Taipei is the political, economic, educational and recreational center of the country, offering an array of significant cultural sights. The city is situated in a basin in northern Taiwan.

With its vibrant cultural and economic growth, it has become a modern international metropolis. Taipei is located in a natural basin, surrounded by mountains on all sides, and belongs to a subtropical region, which has the effect of causing high humidity. The summer months of May through September are very hot, while the relatively short winters (usually mid-December through February) can be quite cool. Taipei has a population of about 2,619,000 people which does not include Taipei County.
